Description
PVC free upholstery leather made out of high value polyurethane (PU). This product is characterized by an excellent abrasion resistance, leather touch, high light fastness, excellent resistance against cleaning agents, superior hydrolysis resistance, durability and a high comfort. 24 different standard colours are available. The product is fully PVC- and phthalate free. Flame retarded according BS 5852 Crib 5, based on halogen free technology. A version complying with DIN 4102-B1 is also available.
Advantages
This high quality material is completely produced in Europe under an ISO9001 environment. The production facilities comply with the most stringent EU-regulations regarding environmental demands. During the production, virtually no emissions leave the production facilities and a part of the process heat is recovered and re-injected for the thermal curing of the PU-leather. The product is free of halogenated/brominated FR’s. The Oekotex certification is currently in progress and will be finalised during the coming period.
Compared to PVC based upholstery materials, the following important features can be mentioned:
- High and permanent stretch. Due to its chemical nature, this polyurethane is intrinsically stretchable. Unlike PVC, it does not need the addition of plasticisers to create flexibility and softness. The PU-leather has a superior cold flex compared to PVC;
- Excellent resistant against oils and fats. The polyurethane coating does not contain plasticisers, so there is no loss in flexibility upon ageing in contact with oils and fats. (see cracking phenomena that can be observed on PVC based materials due to plasticizer extraction in contact with oils or fats);
- This polyurethane leather is completely phthalate free. The use of certain phthalates has been restricted in the European Union for use in children’s toys. Some phthalates that are typically used in PVC upholstery are restricted in toys that can be taken into a child’s mouth;
- The breathability of this PU-leather is remarkably higher compared to PVC, which is not at all breathable. This leads to a higher comfort (less transpiration in contact with the PU-leather / warmer feeling);
- In case of a fire, unlike PVC based materials, this product does not release a dense and corrosive smoke. This leads to more safety and escape opportunities in case of fire;
- This PU-leather is very easily surface cleanable / disinfectable. The formulations have a very good resistance against commonly used cleaning products and disinfectants (alcohol based disinfectants, active chlorine, quaternary ammonium compounds).
